Prof Mariano Sanz

I obtained my Medical Degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 1981. I later completed a Specialty in Stomatology in 1983 and a Doctorate in Medicine (PhD) at the same university in 1985. Afterwards, I moved to UCLA (USA) in 1988 to specialize in periodontology and returned to UCM in 1989 to become a Professor of periodontology. Since then, I have served as Chairman of Periodontology, Director of the ETEP (Etiology and Therapy of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases) Research Group, and Chair of Postgraduate Periodontology (EFP-accredited Perio Specialty Program). I am also a Type II professor at the University of Oslo. I am a member of the Academia Europeae, and I have received six honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Goteborg (Sweden), Coimbra (Portugal), San Sebastián (Santiago de Chile), the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), the Medical University of Warsaw, and the University of Athens (Greece). I am the former Dean of UCM, past President of the Spanish Society of Periodontology, the European Federation of Periodontology, and the European Federation of the IADR. I have published over 500 scientific publications (ORCID # 0000-0002-6293-5755), (h-index 85), and I am an international lecturer on topics in Periodontology, Implant Dentistry, and Dental Education.
